Do you want the extended range and speed that the new Draft-N with MIMO routers provide but don't want your office to look like the antenna farm at SETI? Then the WNR834B from Netgear is for you. This sleek white and grey box has the three pre-tuned antennae hidden away inside the housing. The front panel has discrete indicator lights in the pattern familiar to Netgear users while the back has color coded RJ45 ports for LAN and WAN connections, plus a power port. This makes physical setup fast and easy.

You've gotten the hardware set up, now what? The Smart Wizard installation and WiFi Protected Setup connects and secures your network. If you are using Netgear adapters that also have Touchless WiFi Security they will communicate with the router and automatically configure the security protocols.

Now that you've gotten it set up it’s time to enjoy speeds up to 15x faster with 10x greater coverage area than Wireless G. The QoS algorithms prioritize data transmission for high quality streaming of HD video, gaming and VoIP calls.

Not bad for what I paid!! 9/14/2009 6:12:05 PM

Pros: DD-WRT capable! Wireless N seems pretty good. I got it for cheap as a refurb!!

Cons: The administrative interface will lock up often when I make changes. I have DD-WRT on there, which is great, but many times the admin CP will lock up on me when I try to "Apply Changes" - this ALWAYS requires a reboot to fix, but at least the router still works, so it won't kick anyone off until you actually reboot.

Overall Review: I almost bricked this router. I flashed from the netgear interface to a DD-WRT std (standard) firmware, which is WRONG. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS!! If you don't first flash to the mini the way DD-WRT forums explains, you WILL be sorry.

I was able to fix the situation by TFTPing the mini DD-WRT then upgraded to a STD. :)

works great for me 8/4/2009 10:42:29 PM

Pros: Bought it refurbished here from newegg, works great for the casual browsing experience. Also, streaming video via SlingPlayer, youtube etc work great.

I have my laptop, my iphone & my gf's laptop & iphone always connected through this router. No dropped connections yet.

$23 for a N router which works great, can't beat that

Cons: - Height is a little too much but it fits in my TV cabinet. Might be a problem for others though.

Pathetic 7/19/2009 9:29:43 PM

Pros: Makes a Nice Paperweight. Cheap if you buy it as refurb.

Cons: Just about everything else. 'Smart wizard' software they claim is in the box doesn't exist, including on the website. Incredibly complex, non-intuitive setup. Although they claim a 30 day tech support with refurb, in actual practice this doesn't exist. The only way you get to talk to a live tech is to buy their 'premium' tech support which costs more than the router itself. All around, something to be avoided, unless you really enjoy wasting time and money. My first (and last) netgear product

BAD company 7/7/2009 9:57:51 PM

Pros: Decent router, can be flashed with DD-WRT, but be careful to use the correct version. (Read the DD-WRT wiki carefully.)

Cons: NETGEAR tech support is PATHETIC. They refuse to honor a warranty on my refurbished product, even though the box contained a printed 30-day warranty card. They kept me on hold for a manager for 20-30 minutes on three consecutive calls and disconnected me each time. This is a VERY BAD company that happens to make good products.

Great, unless you use vpn or games 3/12/2009 3:42:54 PM

Pros: Reception and data rates are good. Draft N appears to work with my dell intel-draft N card. Only loses signal once in a while. Price was quite good at the time.

Cons: Couldn't use my work VPN through this router. Their software was old so I figured it was likely related to that. That was a handful of months ago.

Lately I've been having trouble playing network games of the PS3 game, Bad Company. Two game joins are required, the first fails but the second often works. Tried dmzing the ps3, disabling or running nat in open mode, disabling stateful packet inspection, disabling firewall, been running the latest firmware for some time now.

When I tried going straight from the PS3 to the cable modem everything works great so its obviously something going on with the router. I've had the router for a year or so now and I'm wondering what else it might be screwing up. Looking at purchasing a new wireless router because taking the rest of the PCs off of the internet when I'm using the ps3 is a huge pain. Probably going to look at a linksys since I've had good luck with those in the past.

Eh, try sticking to something with antenna 3/5/2009 1:06:19 PM

Pros: Sleek Design, easy setup, decent connection in short range.

Cons: If you're trying to connect to something from normal range, connection isnt that great. Drops out from time to time. Switched to DD-WRT and boosted the tx antenna to get a signal boost and I still cant get a full signal from about 35-40 feet away.

Overall Review: none just wish I would have saved my money and got a decent router.

Awesome 2/3/2009 11:57:12 PM

Pros: You can install DD-WRT an open soruce firmware for more features. Full speeds. no dropped connection, wireless N, what else can i say :)

Cons: This router bricked on me when flashing to new firmware. Few months later i try again and it worked. (My Fault)

Overall Review: Would recommend it to anyone.
