Question 1

Will this unit work when plugged into an extension cord?

Accepted Answer

As long as it is not a surge protector type extension cord it should work fine. It states in the little documentation you get not to plug into a surge protector extension. I bought an 8 inch extension and have mine plugged into that and have no problems. I did this to allow a 3-prong plug to be plugged into the upper outlet, otherwise you can only get a 2-prong plug in the upper outlet.

Question 2

I have a main power panel and a sub-panel in my house.  I was told that these need to be on the same circuit. True or false?

I have them installed in 2 bedrooms, living room and garage. These are on different circuit breakers and work fine. So staying in the same breaker panel works. I cannot say about going from your main panel to a sub panel. I would think it should work, but they have covered their bases by saying it has to be on the same circuit. I am guessing that they should work as long as you have no type of filtering, like a surge protector or UPS between modules, or try to go outside the electric meter.

Question 3

Can I use both of these as additions to a powerline network I have already started?

As long as your existing powerline network is not encrypted and it does not use the newer MIMO technology then yes it SHOULD be compatible but different companies will not guarantee that since they don't actively test other brands for compatibility. Keep in mind if you have different rated speeds for different adapters they will all slow down to the lowest rated adapter.

Question 4

I have an older model, a Powerline AV200 (XAV2001.) Would this model be compatible with that?

I believe so, I have the older model also (XAV2001) and I actually use it with a different manufacturer (d-link) wireless one with no trouble. As long as it is Powerline compliant it should work with any other compliant device.

Question 5

How many adapters can be used on one system?

I currently run three -- one at the cable modem and router, one at TV and one at remote Wi-Fi access point in corner of basement with a printer wired to it.  I have a fourth that I enabled and tested, but didn't need it, so it's not in use.
