Question 1

Is this right?  It says that it "allows you to use a SATA drive in your PC.  But the Molex on this is female, and the Molex on the power supply is female.  I think that maybe this is for using an older drive in a newer computer.  I can't recognize that gender the 15-pin side is.  Does it plug into drives or does it plug into power supply cables?

While the adapter description states it's for SATA I and II Hard Drive model SATA-FM I used it to install a SATA II Asus Optical Drive DRW-B1ST-38.  This was a replacement for an older Optical Drive that used the wide flat ribbon data cable (ATI???) and the molex power supply connector.  The 15 pin side plugs into the dvd drive and a short  cable joins the adapter to the power supply connector.  It must be male on both ends.  I only recall (6-7 month ago) I had no spare cables and had to buy whatever was needed.

Will this adapter power a 3.3v Sata III?

I haven't tried it with Sata III, but it seems to be a straight through wire w/o intelligence so it probably would work.
