C-Type Top-flow DesignThe NH-C14’s six heatpipe c-type design allows for superb quiet cooling performance while maintaining a much lower profile than today’s tower-style coolers and providing excellent airflow over RAM modules and near-socket motherboard components.
Dual NF-P14 FLX FansThe NH-C14 comes with two of Noctua’s award-winning, premium quality NF-P14 140mm fans that can be fine-tuned according to your needs via the supplied Low-Noise (L.N.A.) and Ultra-Low-Noise Adapters (U.L.N.A.).
Low Profile ModeRun with a single NF-P14 fan underneath the fin stack and with the top fan removed, the NH-C14 measures only 105mm in height, which makes it ideal for use in smaller enclosures and HTPC applications.
High Clearance ModeThe lower NF-P14 fan can be removed in order to provide additional clearance for chipset coolers or RAM modules with tall heat-spreaders. Run with a single fan on top, the NH-C14 provides a full 65mm of clearance.
SecuFirm2 Multi-socket Mounting SystemNoctua’s enthusiast grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting provides broad socket compatibility (LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA775, AM2, AM2+ and AM3) and meets the highest demands in safety, performance and ease-of-use.
Noctua NT-H1 High-end Thermal CompoundNoctua's much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a well proven pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease-of-use and outstanding reliability.
Pros: Plenty of cooling power with fans set @ 900rpm. Fans blow downward and push air to cool components around/near cpu socket. Due to offset / overhang of heatsink & fans it pushes air to also cool RAM modules. Runs fairly quiet. Very slight "whoosh" sound. No buzz, no whine. Excellent instructions, parts, labeling and packaging.
Cons: At 1200rpm full speed it's too audible for home theater system due to a slight cyclical hum.
Overall Review: Original Core i7-965 Extreme Edition 130 cpu has always run hot compared to most other Core i3's / i5's / i7's. With this Noctua NH-C14 the core temps are approx. 38/34/36/33 deg. C. at idle which is as low as i've ever seen them. After 30 mins. of Prime 95 the temps. are approx. 57/54/55/53 deg. C. - an outstanding result. Looks as though it could handle overclocking the cpu but have not yet tried that as the system performs well at stock speed of 3.2GHz. When playing Crysis 3 the core temps. seem to peak at approx. 50 deg. C. To recap, it won't lower cpu idle temps. down into the 20's but it caps the peak load temps. nicely in the mid-50's. Using the supplied Low Noise Adapters, the Noctua fans run at a steady 900rpm whether idle or under load.
