Does the cooler come with the NT-H1 thermal compound, or does that need to be purchased separately?

Mine came with thermal compound, which seems to have a good reputation on the internet, and it works well in my system.

Question 2

Does this block the top pci x1 (or pcie x 16 for that matter) slot on anyones motherboard? I run a soundcard there and I can't move it to another slot.

It depends on what type of motherboard you have. Most of the Intel boards have the first pci-e slot very close to that area. The AMD boards don't seem to have problems with it covering any of the pci-e slots.

This thing is huge. I can't comment on the HAF912, but the manufacturer provided dimensions, plus clearance tolerances should give you an idea. Also, the location and height of your RAM sticks should be taken into consiceration as this cooler can extend out over the RAM slots.

Anyone tried this inside a Bitfenix Prodigy yet? Does she fit?

Hugo with your answer i bought the unit, and can confirm this fits and works inside a bitfenix prodigy case. mine went in attached to the mobo no problem but didn't have any fans installed up top at the time. once it was in, i did put another nf-a15 pwm up there though, just not in the slot above the cooler. that i covered over to control airflow better.

summary: works well inside bitfenix prodigy, even with full size video card, though you couldn't mount two fans on the unit in a push/pull config (not enough room between cooler and gfx card.

Can I assume it's beefy enough to cool an i7-11700K?

Technically yes... But you're going to have to run the fans at insanely high speed and it won't boost as high. I would recommend either a D15 or a 280MM+ AIO. In reviews the 11700k pulls up to 225W under full load.

What does it mean in the specs when it says 'stock backplate required?'.

I think they're talking about the piece that you screw to on the other side of the mobo? It's not clear if they are just talking about a specific CPU on that list since this does come with mounting hardware.

D.G. you can use a push pull configuration as long as you have the room in your case.  That is how I have mine set up and it works very good.

I have a Corsair Graphite Series 600T with ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Mobo.  Does anyone have any experience with this combination?  My Graphic card goes in the first slot.  The case is big for a half tower so I don't believe that's likely a problem and since the u14s is designed to clear even taller ram than my G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series I think that I'm alright with that as well.  It's the graphics card slot which is troubling.

I have a very large graphic card in mine three slots wide,and it is close but I have no problem. Of course I have the CM Cosmos ii Case which was deep enough for the cooler and everything else I put in it. I also have fairly tall platinum memory from Corsair and it clears with no problem. will this block the first pci or ram slot on msi gaming 7 z97 motherboard?

I doubt it. Techreport shows 28mm clearance from edge of socket to first memory slot, and the fin stack on the Noctua NH-U14S is quite slim.

I have this mounted on an Asus motherboard with 28.5mm of clearance according to Techreport, and it clears just fine-- it's not a lot of clearance, but it's definitely ample.
