Can this be used to connect a Raid card with SFF8643 to an expander card with SFF8087?

Yes. This is exactly what I did. I connected a Supermicro BPN-SAS-846A pass through 24 port back plane (which has six 8087-sff connectors) to a RES3TV360 Intel SAS3 expander which has 9 SFF-8643 connectors. This expander was then connected to the RAID which has SFF-8643 connectors. Works Great! So in theory you should be able to use this cable to make your connection.
