A headset with attached mic is included. Although it's against the instructions, I am able to use the built on mic on my computer with good success.

NO. Dragon Naturally Speaking 12 Basics must be trained to recognize your voice, (and only your voice), so using it for an interview would be almost impossible to do.

I don't have a cd-rom drive for installation. Can I get this deal via a download instead and get the nuance headset?

A digital download is available from the Nuance web site, but it is MUCH more expensive.  This deal is a steal.  Nab it.  Here is what you do:  1. Buy the disc.  2. Use ImgBurn (free) to burn a disc image on any PC with a CD.  3. Transfer the image to your PC using a thumb drive.  4. Mount the image in your PC and it will play just as if it were on virtual CD play.  5. Windows 8 mounts automatically  by a right click and "mount".  6. Earlier versions require separate software to mount the image, use free DAEMON Tools Lite.  Good luck.  Can't beat the price.

Basic edition has the same great voice to text engine and the most expensive edition.  Here is a brief run-down:
1. Basic = fantastic voice recognition.  That's all I need.
2. Home = adds some voice control over internet browsers and some web mail programs.
3. Premium expands voice control over multiple programs and email clients as well as adds boiler-plate text and some custom commands.
4. Professional adds advanced scripting controls which you will probably never use.
