Can this turn off the fans completely?

Accepted Answer

No, but then no PWM controller that I am aware of can do that (including my Corsair H100i).  It will drop the fans to 1% of their total RPM though.  If you want the fans to turn off completely, check around for a physical control switch for them, or one that can be connected to the power cables leading to the Sentry Mix 2.

Question 2

I have 6 led fans that im going to plug into this. Will the led dim when I have the sliders all the way down to the lowest setting?

Unfortunately, I cannot answer with 100% certainty because my fans do not have LEDs. However, I know that LEDs do not draw a lot of power. So, if the LEDs dim at all, then they should only dim slightly.

Question 3

So as long as my fan has a 3 pin connector I should be able to use this fan controller right? and is there any kind of psu requirement for wattage with this controller? I own an EVGA 750w gold rating psu.

Yes it will work if you have a 3-pin connector on your fan. Wattage requirement depends on the type of fan you have,  and how many fans. Then. The NZXT Fan Controller itself uses up a little by of power. Depending what other computer parts you have connected to your power supply,  it should work. Like I said, more fans means more power. It's easy to calculate however. Simply take the required wattage for the fan(s) you have and add it together along with the controller itself. You should also know how much wattage all the other parts are using. This Fan Controller is very user friendly

Question 4

Okay I have currently just installed all of my components into the Fractal define R4 case, and wanted to get a better fan controller than the one that is stock with the case. I wanted ask if this was a good fan controller for the price and if it would fit behind the door of the Define R4? because if this will not, which seems very low profile, and I am a little bummer out because I like the metal nobs I think it looks nice. I would rather not go touch screen but if this one does not fit then I will go for the  NZXT touch screen version of this item.

It will fit but the door won't close flush all the way. The space between the door and the panel is only enough for things like optical drive eject buttons. Anything bigger, and it will dig into the sound proofing foam on the R4 case. You probably wanna go with something flat like a touch screen controller, if you care about how flush your door will close.

Question 5

Hello, does this controller jut out of the bay? It doesn't appear to but I have a corsair 550D and I would like to be able to close the door on the front panel. Thank you!

The nubs and the outer perimeter seem to be pretty much flush and the middle part is actually inset. Well that's how it is on my CM 690 Nvidia Edition case.

Judging from the pictures I have seen of the 550D front panel I think you should be just fine. Honestly for $35 you cant beat the price for this fan controller.

Just keep in mind that the numbers under each nub are lit by LED's that you can chance the color of, but I haven't found a way to turn off. I keep it on green since it goes with my case, but if you are looking for it to be off, like it is in the picture, this might not be the one for you.

Question 6

Will this automatically control the fan rpm according to temp?  Does it have a temp sensor you can stick on a GPU water-cooling block?

This is a manual DC Current Fan Controller only.  Which means the "retro" looking sliders on the front adjust the amount of power going to each fan, increasing or decreasing the fan's RPMs.  There are no temperature gauges, or sensors for that matter.

If that's the model you're looking for, go with the $50-ish NZXT with the LCD Screen.  You can use each Temperature Probe in a different zone of your computer, and set the controller to never let that zone reach a declared temperature (Graphics Card - 55C, CPU - 40C, etc.).

I have to ask, is this the answer to installing say 5 fans on a motherboard with only a 1-2 headers on it?

Yes, and it also can be the answer if you have high performance fans that need more voltage. I use it to control 6 high performance fans so I can tune them to be as quiet as possible with the best cooling performance possible.

Can the LEDs on the panel be turned off?

Yes, Hold down the LED color change button for 5sec and the LEDs turn off.

do you have to use all fan cables?

No.  I only use 4.  The other 2 are tucked away in an empty drive bay  You can use as many as you need.

Is this OK to use for the CPU fan or is that simply a no no ?

I wouldn't. If your CPU fan is 4 pins your motherboard will be able to adjust the speed according the the temp. Your MB might not even boot without having a CPU fan attached to the MB itself (without some BIOS tweaking).

So in short, it's not worth it to hook your CPU fan to the Fan Controller.
