I know it's 2400 for clock speed but what RAM format is it?

DDR4. PS: I added another 8GB and substituted a 500GB Samsung SSD for the 1TB hard drive. Now lightning fast.

How easy is it to add an SSD to this laptop? Does it have an easily removed cover to install or do you have to take the entire back off?

You can replace the HD it comes with, with an SSD, but you may have to figure out how to clone the HD. The plus is that the HD is easily accessible. A better option is to just add an NVME drive and leave the HD, but that requires removal of the backplate. It's not too difficult, but in order to do it correctly, the HD must also be removed and disconnected temporarily. HD can then be cloned, and you get a WAY faster system, because the NVME interface allows for 5-6 times faster reads/writes vs SATA with modern hardware.
