does this printer have a fax, copy, scan options?

No, This is a base model with print capabilities only, But boy does it print, if you want to scan or copy buy a cheap secondary printer for that and dedicate the X451 for your print services. It WILL blow your socks off.

this printer boasts up to "50,000" pages per ink cartridge? I am unsure of the description and what it means?

Michael I think your confusing cartridge capacity with duty cycle, the ink cartridge is going to deplete at a rate relative to the type of printing your are doing, text vs. graphics vs. photo etc. and resolution 300x300 vs. 600x600 etc. but we have experienced phenomenal out put per cartridge thus far. you may run through the black faster than any of the others but HP never ships printers with the XL cartridges. As for rated duty cycle, that is the machines ability to keep up with print demand with out degrading performance and reliability. A 50k monthly duty cycle is pretty darn good for a printer in its price range. And with the print resolution set to General Office(300x300) this thing is Lighting fast. So far our office is very impressed.

This one does fax right?

HP OfficeJet x476dn is the model of this printer with faxing functions.. this model does not fax, it is a printer not a multifunction.
