Question 1

I just purchased an Ooma and trying to determine if I need this device. 
Is this a network extender? 
Does anything actually connect to this device?

I have 2 of these and they are awesome! I have one setup as a separate office phone (with a separate phone number) and the other one is connected to my satellite box to provide caller id since I do not have a jack in the wall near the sat. box.
As for the uses, this device (Linx) is used to either extend the original line to another area wirelessly (no need to run wires) or you could add another line, with a different number with the premier service, as a 2nd line or as a fax line. You can connect a normal telephone to it or a fax machine like you would normally to the telephone jack in the wall.

Can this be used to connect a fax machine without a land line phone and RJ11 outlet?  Thanks.

I have just configured one to replace an analog phone line. It works well for calls - I connected the phone to the RJ11 outlet that exists on the Linx and got full functionality. The phone will ring when called, and you have the OOMA dial tone when you pick up the handset.

If you want to connect a fax machine, I think that you have to get a "premier" account (which will cost you 99$ a year if I am not mistaken). Upgrading your account to Premier, a special setting becomes available on the "My OOMA" page to enable better FAX performance. To set it up, you should log into the "My OOMA" account on line, Choose the "Preferences" tab on the top selection bar, and then select "System" on the right hand side selection bar. You will see a third setting in the "Calling Options" screen that will be presented - "Enable Premier Fax".
You should set up "Fax Redundancy" to the level that works best for you (I would go with "2 redundancy level" and test it out for a couple of days).

I am not sure if the OOMA will work well with FAX transmissions without the "Premier" settings.

Question 3

I have multiple phones that plug into electrical sockets (not phone line in the wall plugs) and they work fine. Question is will I NEED this to make all my phones work throughout the house? Or will our wireless router take care of making phones function?

I use the Ooma Linx for a secondary phone line.  I needed to do that so I would have a second phone number for a dedicated Fax line.  If you are not having a second phone number, then you do not need the Ooma Linx.  Just plug your base station into the Ooma console, and the other cordless phones will work as before.
