Does this listing include the actual opticon 2005 bluetooth scanner itself?

The phrasing of "USB Batch Only" is throwing me off as I'm not sure what that relates to and I'd like to confirm that the scanner unit itself is included.

This isn't the Bluetooth model and isn't intended to be used as a USB-tethered "live" scanner for scanning directly into a field in an app.  It is a batch memory scanner with which you scan a bunch of barcodes into the unit's internal memory for subsequent download to a PC via the supplied USB cable.

is this compatible with bluetooth wireless?

No, the OPN2001 is strictly batch mode: scan barcode(s), attach scanner to workstation via USB cable, then dump data.
However, Opticon does have bluetooth models: OPN-2006, along with the PX-20, and the OPN-3xxxx and OPN-4xxxx lines.

Question 3

Can you download the data to any computer or do you need software that is only licensed for one computer?  I need the data in a text file to incorporate it into my own inventory software but I want to be able to download it onto my laptop when on the road and my PC at the office.

The OPN2001 (and any OPN running its version of the OPN2001 emulator firmware) requires the use of a PC side application to communicate and receive the scanned barcode data. While a free SDK is available to customize such an application this is Opticon's free standard application.

Question 4

We would use this to scan physical inventories - people would have a couple hundred barcodes per batch.  Is it difficult to use without a screen showing what you just scanned?

Accepted Answer

You get a confirmation beep on successful scan (or a tone if it doesn't).    It's rather easy to add and remove a code just added.    It also acquires quickly and accurately, so you're not going to be having to rescan or repeated attempts.   And they scan at a decent range of distances.   Handling will not be an issue.   The Opticon app can also give you lots of options/settings in the firmware to insure your scans are being accepted (and rejected if they aren't the proper format, ie somebody uses the wrong barcode on a box).

Question 5

Does this product allow scanning of ISBN numbers...want to use it for my book inventory?

This product scans any kind of bar code.  So if you ISBN number is also a bar code, it will read it.  It just reads it into a text file that can be downloaded.  If you are looking for it to read ISBN numbers for a POS System, that is not what it is designed for.  We utilize these scanners to keep track of attendance at chapel for our students, and attendance at athletic events.  They scan bar codes quickly, are easy for the user to use and an inexpensive solution.

Question 6

I have a product that erases the data as it is downloading onto my computer.  Not a good thing if something goes wrong.  Does this one do the same thing or is there a different step to erase the data?  Thank you

This Opticon Opn 2001 Pocket Memory Laser scanner has a separate step to delete the data.  It will not delete it unless you specifically click the "Delete Barcodes" button.  Then it will ask if you are sure if you want to delete them.  It is important, however, for you to delete them when you have successfully downloaded them, or it will append them to whatever you already have on there.  Make sure you click the browse button and give the file a name before you tell it to download the barcodes, or it will not create the file.  Check to make sure it created the file before you tell it to delete the barcodes.

Are the new or refurbished?  Does the 2 year warranty from Opticon, the manufacture, apply to these units.

All we have received are new. We have not had a problem to test the the warranty.

Question 8

Can it save the data/time of each scan? I need to know the amount of time between scans.

we wrote our own software using OptiCon's API and it does have the ability send the time to the scanner and it then it will timestamp the scans.  I don't know if the default software does or not.

Question 9

would this scanner be used for high volume school photography?

it simply scans and stores in the order scanned, so if that's all you need and 15,000 scans is enough then sure.
