Will I also need software to command it..??

No, its really just an extender insofar as the connectors go, effectively making the 2.5" drive as big as a 3.5" drive.
One thing that may or may not occur is that if you plug it into a 3.5" PC case mobile rack that has its own hard drive activity LED, that LED might not flash with activity; however, if your PC has a regular activity LED connected to the motherboard, that will continue to function. I don't know  if this also applies if you use this Orico 2.5" adapter in an external enclosure.

Question 2

Anyone plan on or have used this with a MacPro tower with drive sleds?

It should work with any operating system as long as the computer has removeable 3.5" HDD sleds or any type of 3.5" slot. They have holes in the bottom which you use to attach the 2.5" drive to the sled and then it has holes on the sides that are the same dimensions as your standard 3.5" HDD. I probably have 5 of these and they are definitely handy. As long as Apple hasn't gone and made propriety drives with different dimensions you should be good with this in nearly any kind of case with 3.5" or even 5.25" bays (would need additional mount).

Is this only for ssd or will it work with any 2.5 hard drive?
