Will this work with USB 2.0 Port?

USB 3.0 ports are designed to produce alot more Amperage power per port then USB 2.0 ports.  There is a much greater chance that the devices you plug into this adapter without using extra power adapter to power the Orico adapter will not work.  I think it's 500mA maximum for USB 2.0 port vs. 800mA maximum for USB 3.0 port as per USB specifications.  You pretty much HAVE to use an external power adapter to power this Orico adapter when you plug it into a USB 2.0 port on your PC.

I don't know.  I am not using it.

I bought two of these USB3 hubs to use with a CalDigit Thunderbolt hub/station.  The CalDigit unit has three USB3 ports.  I put a 1.5TB USB3 drive onto one port. I put the two Orico USB3 hubs onto the two other CalDigit ports in order to expand those ports.  I have a pair of 1TB USB2 drives attached to ports of the two hubs, and that pair is actually a RAID0 (striped) set that makes a fast 2TB disk.  I have various USB1/USB2 peripherals attached to other ports of the two hubs: mouse, laser printer, scanner, USB speakers.  I have a 3TB Thunderbolt disk drive daisy chained to the CalDigit, and a display port connection daisy chained to that disk drive.  The result is that all of my peripherals are now connected to my MacBookPro by just one cable! Neat.  So far, in two weeks of daily use, this setup has worked just fine.

The Orico hubs are an integral part of this setup.

What power adapter do I need?

You probably won't need an external power source unless you are running multiple 2.5" hard drives at the same time as it runs off the laptop's USB power source. can this hub be powered by ac adapter?

No...
The hub is powered thru the USB port only...I have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port on the motherboard and it works perfectly. It's very convenient when adding files to external hard drives--I plug the cable into the Orico hub instead of having to access the back of the computer.

I notice it lists out the operating systems its compatible with...has anybody tried it with Windows 10?

I have not, but it has worked flawlessly for me on multiple computers including windows 7 and 8. It is a plug and play, so there should be not any issues.

It looks like there is an external 5 V A/C power adapter plug on the hub.  Is it functional ?  What are the specification of the plug (where is the + and - terminals )?

Yes it is for 5v DC power input. The size is 3.5mm and not 5.5mm. It is + inside and - outside. I am not sure about length of the tip. Mostly, you will only need it if you are running more devices than one external 2.5 inch HDD without power supply. This is a great Hub. I copied a 16GB file to my Seagate 1.5TB 2.5" HDD fine without any additional power supply. Of Course, it will depend on the amps provided by your motherboard. I connected a 2 Amp power supply and had my usb3.0 hdd, usb3.0 flash drive, and two additional usb2.0 flash drives, and I was copying to all four devices. The speeds were HDD 30Mbps, usb 3.0 flash drive 17Mbps, and usb2.0 flash drives about 8Mbps. Be careful when you buy a cheaper one from the BAY or other places. Manufacturers are still experimenting on a more affordable device. Yes the cable (36") is either a little too long or too short, depending on the need. It is on shell shocker sale today, get it while you can. You will not be sorry. Get a 3.5mm DC power usb cable for 99 cents and any 5v usb charger laying around and you are good to go. If you look at all your usb device accessories you might just find that DC power cable too, I did. Hope it helps. Happiest Newegger.

Question 7

I'm running Windows7 Pro.   If I plug my Logitech wireless mouse dongle into the hub, it will not recognize the mouse upon bootup, and therefor will not complete the boot.  I have to plug the dongle into one of my desktop tower's usb 2.0 plugs to boot.
I could not find any driver solution to this.  can anyone provide a suggestion ?
Maybe when I install Win 10 it will be solved.

Long story short:  This ORICO USB Hub has been trashed.  It created, at first, undetectable electrical problems to where the PC wouldn't boot.  Before it became that serious, there were anomalies at various times during the day hours after the PC was on and working properly, the PC would display the applet indicating it just detected a flash drive which had already been connected for hours to the ORICO Hub.  After two days of this, I connected the flash drive to one of the USB connections directly on the PC and there was never any indication of a problem.

Once I trashed the ORICO and started using a different brand for a USB Hub, everything is now OK.  So, it's time to trash the ORICO.

I have a windows 7 (64) system.
how can I get a driver for this system???

I don't think there are drivers for this USB port hub that are available.  Windows, especially, Windows 7 and above, are supposed to detect it automatically.  It would either work or not work for you--it's that simple.  No firmware and no drivers.  It is what is called a "Plug and Play" device--no interaction beyond plugging it is required on your behalf.

Question 9

I just plugged this 4-port adapter into a 3.0 port on my desktop.   Then I plugged  my external HD into USB 1 of this strip.    The HD got power, but (unlike when it's directly plugged into the desktop) my PC did not recognize my HD (no 'D' drive appeared).    How do I fix this?
