Question 2

Have any other people received this item dead on arrival? In a rush to get a powered hub to finally be able to power my Alpha USB Network Adapter since requires two USB ports and the ones on my laptop do not provide enough power and received my Hub dead on arrival and was already in a rush and now debating to risk waiting another week + to get this returned and then get a replacement and want to see if this product arriving dead on arrival is a frequent issue in which case will just go ahead and order a different hub and return this for a refund to save time.

I received mine several weeks ago and simply plugged it in and was ready to go. It has been flawless ever since.
I would say go for it. Sometime s**t happens but not that often, you just won the luck of the draw.

Question 3

Does this product provide power to all ports? If so, what is its power supply wall power or USB? Does anyone make a 10 port power strip?

It does provide power on all ports. However, there is a maximum power draw for any type of powered hub.  If you're planning on plugging in a bunch of bitcoin asic miners or something similar that is drawing full power 24/7, you should find out your power requirements first (amps), then choose your hub based on it's ability to provide that much power.  If your power draw exceeds what the power supply and hub allow, then you may just burn it up.

What is amperage rating of the supplied 12V power adapter?  And, what are the dimensions of the HUB?

I honestly did not look at the amperage before connecting the hub but the website states it is 12 volts 2.5 amperage.  The hub itself is roughly 7 inches long and about 2.75 inches deep.  I have it sitting on a western digital my book that lays on it's side and it extends maybe a centimeter or two past it.  The indicator lights on the hub light up blue but only when the port is "live".  You can put a phone charger cord on it, but unless you connect the phone it does not draw power to the port.

Can you be more specific on your question. What do you want to know. I bought that model and use it with my network using a Mac setup. I also have a NAS setup. It has a very good transfer rate. Do you want to know more specifics about the motherboard?

Question 6

Does the voltage drop as each new device is added? It should be 5 volts at each connection. If you are using all connections and each is drawing power, are the each getting 5 volts?

Why is the cord from the Power Adapter to the computer so short? It should be a 3 ft. cable as I would suspect the product sets on top of a desk and the compute is elsewhere.

Your question is a little vague.  In one breath it sounds like you mean the power cord, yet you suggest it is related to the connection to the computer which implies the USB cable.  I will assume you are discussing the USB cable.  In any case both cables I received were 3ft in length.  Perhaps you mean 3m?

The increased signalling rates in USB 3 require much more stringent electrical properties of the cables used in order to obtain the best performance of the bus.  The USB3 spec does not specify a limit in length, but the shorter the cable, the lower the chance for throughput problems will be.

In the case of a USB Hub, all devices connected to the hub will be communicating through that one cable.  As such it is imperative that it not introduce communication problems into the bus.  I am sure they could have provided a longer cable than they did but it would have increased the cost of the package.  The cable included with my package was 3ft which will be sufficient for my needs, I only need about 12-18" as the device sits below my laptop stand. Based on some online research, the reasonable maximum USB 3 cable length is about 3m.  No reason to put every purchaser at the potential maximum.

Has anyone VERIFIED with their own system that this hub's chipset supports obtaining the SMART device data from hard drives that support SMART?

(Please don't answer with a generic "All USBx.x hubs support SMART data" or similar. SMART data exchange is NOT supported by every USB chipset...regardless of whether it's USB2.x or USB3.x. It is manufacturer dependent, and even model dependent from the same manufacturer.)
