The Mitutoyo® 500-196-30 electronic caliper has a measuring range of 0 to 6 inches (0 to 150 mm) with an incremental accuracy of 0.0005 inches ( 0.01 mm). Its digital LCD display allows for convenient and flexible readings in inches or metric units, supporting both absolute and incremental measurements. Capable of measuring inside and outside diameters, depth, and step values, this versatile caliper comes with a protective case and an SR44 silver oxide battery. Electronic calipers are commonly used in manufacturing for inspection and precise measurement. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for documentation.
Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers offer faster, simpler, and less error-prone measurements, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically and are not resistant to coolant. Vernier calipers are more durable than digital calipers because they have no internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, woodworking, and medicine. Mitutoyo® Corporation manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and established in 1963 as Mitutoyo® America, headquartered in Aurora, Illinois.
An attached depth probe slides along a crossbar to measure depth. One jaw is fixed to the end of the dial, while the other jaw slides along the crossbar with gearless precision to take measurements. Readings are generated electronically and displayed as a single value on a high-resolution digital screen. Electronic calipers can perform differential measurements; by zeroing the reading at any point on the dial, the difference in measurement between two objects can be determined.
