Applications: UF-B serves as an underground feeder and branch circuit wiring cable. It functions as an underground feeder from an existing structure to outdoor lighting fixtures, pumps, outbuildings, and other equipment. Its uses are defined in Article 340 of NEC 2008 and NEC 2011. UF-B is rated for 600 volts. While it is rated for a conductor temperature of 90ºC dry/wet, its ampacity is limited to 60ºC as per NEC 2008 and NEC 2011. UF-B can be directly buried or installed in locations exposed to sunlight. When utilized as an NM cable, it must meet the requirements in NEC 2008 and NEC 2011 Article 334.
