Does this product need to be connected to a computer as well as xbox?

Yes, the box needs to be connected via unencrypted (non-HDCP) HDMI from the source (game console) and USB 2.0 to your computer.

does it also capture voice audio through some kind of 2.5mm or 3.5 mm jack?

The software is compatible with any usb microphone connected to your pc. It has a built in 3.5mm jack, but it's strickly to replace the HDMI audio with analogue audio. It can't record both at once. With a usb microphone though, you can record both game sound and your voice onto your videos at once. The software also allows you to adjust volume levels of both game audio and micriphone audio in order to achieve the balance you prefer.

Question 3

I have regular bluray player and want to watch movie on my computer.  The bluray player has HDMI output.  Can I use bluray to connect to this device and connect this device to computer USB 2.0?  If not, which one do you recommend any device?  Thanks

I am almost certain this would work. The hdmi out works the same for all devices and the image would be transferred onto your computer via the USB. 
Side note: the USB for the elgato doesn't seem to work correctly with my USB 3.0 ports (only shows a still frame in the preview rather than the actual video but the recording comes out fine) so be sure to use USB 2.0 if you have it. Hope it all works out for you!

Does the device come with "everything" needed to do out of box streaming from xbox one to computer w/ OBS? What is the max distance from xbox one to computer does the cording allow?Thanks [:

It comes with everything to stream, obs will have to be downloaded from obs website. The hdmi cable included as well as the power USB cable is about 5ft you'll need to have the Xbox one and hd60 and your computer pretty close together. And before you make a decision make sure you have a good upload speed from your isp or you will be limited to what quality you stream as well as your pc specs also make an impact on the quality of the stream

Will this specific model work with PS3 ?

Out of the box? No. You will still need a hdmi splitter to by pass the HDCP. But for the ps4 has an on an of setting in the ps4 where you can record all you have to do is go in the settings to do so.

Does this only work for play station and Xbox or does it work on other consoles?

It is a passive HDMI. In other words what ever video goes in via the HDMi it can be recorded. With my Xbox 360 i had to do some moving around with my wireless turtle beachsound wires to make it fully work

Buying this for son and don't know what I'm doing - will this also capture or stream his PC games, not just Xbox? And does it capture voice?

This will allow him to capture and stream PC games, but it isn't quite as good at doing that as PC downloadable software, but it's pretty good. It will require some extra equipment, but it's pretty cheap. Simplest way to make it work well with PC is to buy an HDMI Splitter and a DVI-to-HDMI cable. Connect DVI-to-HDMI from computer to Splitter. One HDMI cable to the Elgato, and one HDMI to the monitor. This will allow you to capture PC games.

As for the Voice: Simple answer is yes, it will capture your voice, but you will need a separate microphone. The microphone will connect to the computer and the "Live Commentary" button is pressed on the Elgato software interface to record your voice. This doesn't need to be an expensive mic, any mic you can connect to the PC with decent quality will work.

if i instal this software on a mac, can i use the same card at a buddy's place and instal the software on his pc and record there?

Yes, the Elgato is not computer-specific. You can use it on any pc, just install the software.

Question 10

It says it can record PS4 Xbox 360 and Xbox 1? can it record PS3?

No because the PS3 has always on HDCP protection through the HDMI port. If you used a component cable you would not have the HDCP problem. Unfortunately you can't really do that here because this Elgato only has HDMI inputs. You could of course get a component to HDMI converter box (I tried it by going through a component to VGA box. Then a VGA to HDMI and it worked). Though finding boxes that outputs good picture quality is tough.

PS4 has a menu option to turn off HDCP (while it's enabled you won't be able to open video streaming apps) and the XboxOne does it automatically. Though there is a stupid bug where if you have opened any video app it will enable HDCP for games so you will have to hard reboot the console to fix it. 360 and Wii U are the only ones that are pain free.

The people you may see who are using their PS3's with this Elgato and have really nice picture quality are probably using an HDCP stripping HDMI splitter. Which are illegal in the US at least.
