Question 1

Is this the managed and PoE version or capable?

Accepted Answer

Well sort of.

POE yes, Managed, yes and no.

The UniFi switches are managed with the UniFi Controller software. Ubiquiti has been slow to roll out a complete feature set. Something are great. If you are managing a bunch of switches it makes things easier. Port aggregation (especially between to UniFi switches) is easier than any other solution I have used. However, some critical features like QoS are not yet available. Also, IMHO the VLAN implementation is incomplete.

Max.

Question 2

Does this support Layer 3 routing?

Accepted Answer

No it doesn't and according to the Ubiquiti forums that is not a feature they will add. The hardware has an ARP table limitation that would cause problems on networks with a larger number of devices. (I think the limit is approximately 475 devices on the network before the ARP table runs out of space.) Their expectation is that you will do the L3 routing in the USG gateway. (assuming you are using a USG on your network)

I believe the Edgemax series of their switches can do limited L3 routing but also have the same ARP table limitation mentioned above. Note the Edgemax switches are not manageable in the unifi gui.
