Is this burner external  using USB jacks?. I have a new style  Adrus computer that has no place for internal drives. The older Asus bluray burner(B12-D1S-U )) I have is great but it can't  recognize or read 4K BLu-rays

Hello, This is not an external burner. But you can purchase a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter that will let you use it as an external burner. Also you can get an external enclosure that would work as well. Best Wishes

I have not used it as a stand alone inside a CD ROM enclosure.  But, there should not be any reason that it would not work in a CD ROM enclosure with SATA connections and controller board.  It works as a standard CD ROM internal drive so as long as you have an enclosure built for a SATA CD Drive, with connections, CD ROM controller board,  a cooling fan and  power supply, it should be fine.  But you might want to ask the manufacture before purchasing it just to make sure.

Updated to firmware 3.0. Doesn't include firmware disk it is already installed and you can't change it.

Question 5

Will this play 4K blu rays if you’re using a Ryzen processor? I’ve read that 4K (UHD) discs will not play if using AMD CPUs.

Sorry, I don't have an AMD system or an AMD Processor. So, I don't if it will or not, it wont  play on my Intel I9 9820 x299 Motherboard. Only on Intel 7th gen Kaby Lake CPU's and above. You will just have to do your research. This is a burner and not a player! Good luck.

Can this drive be mounted vertically, so as to work with the Corsair Carbide AIR 540 case?

Not to my knowledge.  Most drives I've seen that mount vertically have  a snap or something to hold the disk in place when it closes and opens.  This is an open mount, where the disk picks right up from the tray.

Does this really support Lightscribe even though there's no Lightscribe logo?

I have light-scribe software that works with several drives, but does not work with this one.  To the best of my knowledge it does not perform light-scribe. You would have to also have light-scribe disk as well, and those are hard to come by now-days.  I tried with some disk I had and my software does not recognize it as light-scribe burner.

Does this drive work with AMD CPU's? Would it work with AMD Ryzen 9 3900X?

Optical drives are CPU-agnostic. As long as your OS is supported, you are good to go.
