The SlimSAS 8i is a PCIe x8 to SFF-8654 cable adapter for attaching a SAS device to a standard PCIe x8 slot. The SlimSAS 8i is compatible with all SlimSAS controllers that use SFF-8654 connectors, such as the LSI 9211-8i and LSI 9211-4i controllers. The SlimSAS 8i provides two internal connectors; one to connect to the motherboard and one to connect an internal SATA/SAS drive to the adapter. This allows you to use any SATA/SAS drive in your system with no loss in performance compared to a natively connected HDD or SSD.
