did anyone open this up and swap a BD-RW in it? (Is it the same size as to any laptop optical drive...)

The drive unit is very well engineered, to function. It is the same size and operate precisely in the same manor as an internal drive. I did notice that the transfer speed is incredible, that is to say: equally too or better than my 8x internal.
