THE MOTHERBOARD WAS DOA.  I PAID FOR A NEW MOTHERBOARD AND IT LOOKED LIKE THEY SENT ME A RETURNED USED ONE. I RETURNED IT AND GOT A REFUND AND BOUGHT THE ASROCK Z77 PRO4 AND IT HAS WORKED FLAWLESS AND I AM WELL PLEASED WITH IT.

This is basic information commonly available in the manual or on the manufacturer's website.  I STRONGLY suggest you have a professional at a shop do your upgrade.  If you are already stuck on CPU support, you will never succeed in a full system build.

Am I able to install Windows via USB directly or do I need to copy to DVD?

The ability to install Windows from a USB drive has nothing to do with what motherboard you're using, unless that motherboard doesn't have the ability to boot from a USB device, and pretty much every motherboard built in the last decade or so can boot from USB.

There are several guides online that tell you how to load the contents of a Windows installer DVD or ISO onto a USB flash drive, so just follow one of those and you should be good to go.  Shouldn't need to worry about boot order either.  If you are installing onto a system with no operating systems currently installed on any available hard drive, it will fail to boot from disk and will automatically revert to the USB drive as the boot device.

Technically yes you can have SLI or CrossfireX but this isn't really the board for that type of set up. First its a microATX board so it'll be tight cause of the board layout. And second the second PCI express slot is 2.0 and x4. You should look at at least 2x 3.0 running at x8, x8. In my opinion a regular size ATX board too.

I am unable to boot this in UEFI mode. When UEFI boot only mode is selected, it cannot boot from a USB flash or from a cdrom. As a result, I just cannot get dual boot with windows7 and Ubuntu. Has anyone had success with booting in UEFI mode with a USB flash?

I recommend putting the MOBO in Legacy mode unless you just plan on using a Solo Win 8 installation.  If it was in UEFI mode when you installed your OS then you will have to re-install it after you turn the setting to Legacy.

what types of ram things will fit in here and how many i am wanting to put two 4 gigs of ram and upgrade later what type or brand do i need and how many drives for ram will fit?

Hey Grant, I used the 32gb of ripjaw desktop series (DDR3) ram in the form of 4 8gb cards. If you're starting with 4gb you should be fine to expand quite a bit.

If I remember correctly the max is 32gb, there are some other motherboards out there that let you have 64gb but I'm pretty sure that's the max. I used this one because it's compatible for hackintoshes (I write this post my my custom mavericks!)

Not at all. The PCI 3.0 ports have their own lanes.

Anyone else observe Memtest V5 'hang' during "Sequential" CPU test (known good CPU/memory) but no issue with Memtest v4.3.6?

Boot from USB stick, in UEFI mode "Memtest86 Passmark V5.0 Free", Using "CPU Selection (c)"->"Sequential".
Does it hang at "Test #2 Address Test, Own Address"?
(about 20 seconds in, requires reboot)

Details:
GA-Z77M-D3H, F13 bios. i5-3450 CPU, 2x4G DDR3 
(Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX).
Memtest86 (Passmark v5.0 Free / UEFI version) hangs @(first multi-core test "#2 Address Test, Own Address") 
if select CPU(c) as "sequential".
If enabled only 2 cores (in BIOS Advanced setup), it does not hang. 
Enabling any individual CPU or all 4 CPUs in parallel, memtest does not hang.
(Lowered Clk speed and disabled turbo boost, etc in BIOS 
and Swapped CPU/RAM (to i5-2400/DDR3@1300) but also observed the hang.)

Otherwise, Memory tests GOOD (using other CPU selection settings) with 0 errors in Memtest86 V5.
(Note: Tried the new i5-3450 CPU and Kingston DDR3 on older Z-68 non-UEFI motherboard and it ran fine memtest v4.3.6).

QFLASHED BIOS to latest (beta) F15a,
shows same hang issue with Passmark V5/UEFI.
Passes using memtest v4.3.6,  even when started running and switched CPU to "Sequential" option, and continued test. 
No hang observed using this memtest version!
Which version of memtest (Passmark/v5 vs memtest86 v4.3.6)
can be controlled via BIOS option to boot UEFI mode or Legacy.
("MemTest86 V5 image supports dual booting (UEFI/BIOS). On machines that don't support UEFI, 
the older V4 BIOS release of MemTest86 will be automatically booted.")
Selecting UEFI loaded Passmark/v5 and even with the F15a BIOS, also observed the hang.
Seems to rule out bad CPU or Memory sticks.
Suspect strange issue with this specific motherboard (BIOS/firmware or hardware?)
Unfortunately, don't have any other compatible UEFI Mobo to test out.

I found memtest 5 to be buggy - it fails where 4.x works fine.  I say don't read too much into it.
