Question 1

How many M.2 slots?

Accepted Answer

3 total. 2 on the front of the board and a 3rd on the back. Only one on the front has a heat sink.

Question 2

Is the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R motherboard a good choice for building a mid-range gaming PC?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R is solid for a mid-range gaming PC since it supports Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series CPUs and DDR5 memory at high speeds. It also has PCIe 5.0 support, which helps future-proof your build and gives room for faster GPUs and SSDs.

It does, with one caveat: while the board supports integrated graphics through DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1, you’ll need a compatible Ryzen CPU with integrated graphics to use those outputs. For gaming, pairing this motherboard with a decent dedicated GPU is key, and if you plan on heavy overclocking or premium features, higher-end boards might offer more options.

Question 3

What are the key features and supported CPUs of the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R motherboard?

Accepted Answer

The MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R motherboard supports AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors, making it compatible with a wide range of current and upcoming AMD CPUs. It features the AMD B850 chipset and supports fast DDR5 memory up to 8200+ MT/s (OC), along with PCIe 5.0 for future-proof connectivity.

Keep in mind, the integrated DisplayPort 1.4 requires a processor with integrated graphics, so if you’re using a Ryzen CPU without integrated graphics, you’ll need a discrete GPU for video output. Also, while it supports Wi-Fi 7 and 5G LAN for fast networking, the micro ATX form factor means fewer expansion slots compared to larger boards.

Question 4

Is the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R known for any common durability or compatibility issues reported by users?

Accepted Answer

Short answer: no. The MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R hasn’t been widely reported for durability or compatibility issues, and it supports Ryzen 7000/8000/9000 series CPUs, DDR5 memory at high speeds, and modern connectivity options like PCIe 5.0 and Wi-Fi 7.

That said, if you’re using integrated graphics, remember that DisplayPort 1.4 output requires processor graphics, so a compatible Ryzen APU is needed. Also, as it’s a Micro ATX board, ensure your case supports this size to avoid fitting problems.

Question 5

How do I enable WiFi on the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R motherboard during initial setup?

Accepted Answer

To enable WiFi on the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R motherboard, you just need to ensure the WiFi antenna is connected to the back panel ports and then enable the onboard WiFi in the BIOS or through Windows once your OS is installed. This board supports Wi-Fi 7, so you should get very fast wireless speeds when paired with a compatible router.

Keep in mind that onboard WiFi performance can depend on driver installation and the router quality. If you face any issues connecting initially, update your motherboard’s network drivers from MSI's website to ensure full compatibility and optimal performance.

Question 6

How does the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI R compare to the ASUS TUF B850M-PLUS in terms of connectivity and performance?

Accepted Answer

The MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI and the ASUS TUF B850M-PLUS both support AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs and offer PCIe 5.0 along with similar connectivity options like SATA 6Gb/s and DisplayPort 1.4. MSI’s model includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, which gives it a slight edge in wireless connectivity over the ASUS if you need the latest in wireless tech.

That said, the ASUS TUF boards often focus more on durability and VRM design for stable power delivery, which could matter if you’re planning heavy overclocking or longer lifespan. If your priority is cutting-edge wireless and solid mid-range performance, MSI’s board fits well, but if you want a tougher build with proven reliability, ASUS is worth considering.

Question 7

What type of CPUs is this motherboard compatible with?

Accepted Answer

This motherboard is compatible with Ryzen 7000 Series, Ryzen 8000 Series, and Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs.

Question 8

What kind of memory does this motherboard support?

Accepted Answer

This motherboard supports DDR5 memory with a maximum capacity of 256GB across 4 slots.

Question 9

What are the wireless connectivity options available on this motherboard?

Accepted Answer

The motherboard supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless connectivity.

Question 10

How many devices can I connect via SATA?

Accepted Answer
