Is there an adapter that can be used to mount this?

Since it is not as deep as a CD Drive, it would not fit into the clips in my desktop frame.  This is most likely the problem you are facing.  I ended up popping out one set of clips and then used screws to attach it to the frame.  That worked out very well for me.  If I remember correctly, the screws were provided.

How does this connect to the motherboard?

The power is connected via a molex connector. The fan connects with a three pin and the USB/Mini cards connect via a large plug directly to the mother board. On my mother board I had to disconnect the case USB's because my MB only has one female USB port. Hope that helps.

2 (3 or 4 pin) which I have connected to it now and it controls them fine. I'm not sure how many old style you can daisy chain onto it. I bought it mostly for the SD card readers and extra USB 3.0 ports. It's a nice piece of equipment. If you have a 5 inch drive bay you aren't using I'd recommend it.

It's no longer being recognized Win10. Powered on and able to charge USB devices, but no data transfer. Nothing connected shows up under my PC / device manager / devices and printer, etc. Any ideas? Of course, it used to work.

Sounds like a Windows 10 automatic update that corrupted it's function. That being said, see if the RCR-300 shows up under device manager USB devices, if it is there select uninstall but deselect delete drivers. When you reboot Windows should find the device and reinstall uncorrupted drivers.

If that doesn't work you could reinstall Windows 10 or better yet Windows 7.

I got the item, but it seems that the glass over the voltage display seems like there is a scratchy piece of plastic over it... is there plastic over it or is the glass just scratched?

I see two USB internal connectors but only one cable.
What is the other connection for?
Can this be connected to a rear panel USB 3 connector rather than the motherboard header?

If you look at the picture both usb connectors come off the 1 usb3 header.  You must have an available usb3 header on your motherboard.

Does Rosewill make a similar card reader w/usb 3.0 slots in a size for 3.5" drive bays?  I have only that size bay available and all pwm fans, so I don't need the fan control.  Thanks to all for your help!

I do not know for sure but sounds as  though it will not work right usb 3.1 is a deference usb 3.0
