How tall is this ram?

Its pretty tall. We had to remove the heat spreaders to get it on. I would suggest the low profile version for less hassle if youre worried aboit the fit.

Will these work on 1st gen intel core processors? Specifically Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor 
(8M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI)

It should work with no issues. Quad channel memory to my understanding offers more bandwidth on motherboards where it is supported. If you run quad channel on a board that only supports dual, or triple channel memory then essentially you are only going to match that rated bandwidth. Your motherboard specs should specify what type of memory is supported and it will only match that rating, but as far as any boot issues or conflicts there should be none what so ever. RAM is more sensitive about the motherboard you're choosing over the CPU. If you care to link to the motherboard you're looking at, I'd gladly let you know if it's compatible.

I have an older Rampage Extreme x48 board can I use this RAM kit with this board?

It definitely should if you look in your manual just check to see if it's compatible with something like this that's also ddr3 running at 1600 is in there and then it should definitely work.

Thanks for the quick response Greg L, here is the link to the motherboard I was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130697 I wasn't sure about the processor because the specs only mentioned i5 and i7, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen while I'm looking at a 4th gen i3. (pretty sure its 4th gen lol)
