When it says diskless, what does that mean? I need a storage solution, but want to know if I need HD to go with this purchase.

Yes you will need Hard Drives.  The WD NAS Red drives is what I've been using since they were introduced.  I've had no issues.  I've also been using the Synology equipment for almost 9 years now across many different client environments.  I've deployed for backup, file storage and Video streaming as well as IP Camera solutions.  I've got nothing but good things to say about their products.

Will this unit also work as a print server?

Yes! You can set up this unit to become a print server by either direct USB connection or wireless. I'd suggest referring to the Synology knowledge base for more info.
