CL2-rated for in-wall and in-ceiling runs, in the gauge and footage your job actually needs. The GEARit CL2 In-Wall Speaker Wire is bulk two-conductor cable for permanent audio installs: home theater, whole-home audio, surround sound, ceiling and in-wall speakers, classrooms, conference rooms and church sound systems. Choose 14 AWG or 16 AWG, in 100 or 200 foot spools. WHAT CL2 MEANS CL2 is a fire-safety rating for cable run inside a wall or ceiling cavity. The flame-retardant jacket is what makes this cable legal to run behind drywall under most residential codes, where a standard zip-cord speaker wire is not. If your speakers are going in the wall or the ceiling, that rating is the reason to buy this cable rather than a cheaper one. INDOOR USE ONLY CL2 is an indoor rating. This cable is not rated for direct burial, underground conduit or permanent outdoor exposure. For runs outside the building envelope, use a direct-burial-rated speaker cable instead. 14 AWG OR 16 AWG Heavier wire loses less over distance. As a rule of thumb, 16 AWG suits runs under roughly 80 feet at typical 8-ohm loads, and 14 AWG is the safer choice for longer runs, 4-ohm speakers or higher-power amplifiers. When in doubt on a long run, size up. COPPER-CLAD ALUMINUM The conductors are copper-clad aluminum, not solid copper. CCA is lighter and costs less, which is why this spool prices below pure-copper cable of the same gauge. It carries slightly higher resistance per foot than copper, so for very long runs or low-impedance speakers, size up a gauge or compare against an oxygen-free copper cable before deciding. BUILT FOR THE INSTALL Sequential foot markers printed along the jacket let you measure and cut to length off the spool. Red and black color-coded conductors keep polarity obvious at both ends. The flexible PVC jacket pulls through studs, corners and tight cavities, and strips cleanly for banana plugs, spade tips, or bare-wire terminals on receivers and amplifiers.
