Is this monitor HDMI compatible?

It does not have an HDMI port but you can get an HDMI to DVI cable and connect it to the DVI port, or if your device has a DVI port you can just connect the two using a DVI to DVI cable. Since the monitors do not have built in speakers there is no extra benefit to having the HDMi connection, The DVI connection is just as good.

I am considering this as a second monitor for my macbook pro. I see there is a D-sbu and DVI connectivity and I will need an adapter. Is one better than the other? thanks

For the 2013 Macbook Pro, you will need a mini-display adaptor.  D-sub works fine for me.

The non- 'x' modelper Dell allows for tilting the view. Also, the stand seems to plug into the monitor's back only in one position but maybe the monitor can still be turned.
