What is Edge-grain ?
Edge-grain refers to the direction of the wood grain – this is very important when making a chopping board or butcher's block. For starters, it’ll last much longer, and so will your knives when you’re using it! And who can forget the truly stunning finish created by edge-grain crafting. Simply beautiful!
To get a little technical…
Edge grain cutting boards are crafted with the edges of wood facing up, versus the “long grain” of a piece of wood. Because the grain faces up, your kitchen knife won't be able to “sever” any wood fibers, meaning it will stay sharper longer.
