Why hard maple over soft maple or other woods?
Hard maple (sugar maple) hits the sweet spot: ~1,450 lbf Janka … tough enough to resist scarring, gentle enough not to dull knives. More stable than acacia, more knife friendly than teak. The professional butcher block standard.
Why end grain and not edge grain?
End grain exposes wood fibers vertically so your knife slides between them, not across them. The fibers close back around each cut … resisting scarring and protecting your knife edge over years of use.
How do I care for it so it lasts?
Hand wash both sides with mild soap and warm water. Never soak or submerge. Towel dry both sides immediately. Stand on edge for airflow until dry. Condition with food-grade mineral oil as needed and seal with a beeswax/mineral oil blend monthly.
Will it warp or crack?
Not with basic care: hand wash, dry both sides evenly, store upright, never soak or put it in the dishwasher. Oil and condition as needed. If it ever fails structurally under normal use, that's on us — we make it right. That's our 5-year promise.
Is it safe for raw meat and chicken?
Yes. Hard maple’s dense grain resists bacteria absorption naturally. End grain fibers self seal around cuts, closing off grooves where bacteria hide. Hand wash after raw meat, dry well.
