A ticking sound, but faitly. You have to get your ear right up to hear a slight sound.

Yes. The outer band is metal, the filigree back is durable plastic, and the face cover is a heavy-duty plastic that looks like glass.
How and where on the clock do you set the time?
Please open the back of the clock and on the mechanism where you insert the battery there is a small red wheel that rotates with it set the time.
