Do you have to have a USB cable to connect it?

It comes with one. One end goes into the hard drive and the other into the playstation. You have to apply some pressure to the USB cord to get it to "click" into the hard drive side. Other than that, it works great

can this only be used for gaming? What can't it store?

I say it can be used for anything Xbox one ps4 pc . I had to hook it up to pc and format it before the ps4 would read it
