About this item- DUAL BAND VHF/UHF COVERAGE FULL AMATEUR BANDWIDTH Covers VHF 136-174 MHz (2-meter band) and UHF 400-520 MHz (70cm band) , providing complete compatibility with most amateur radio frequencies. VSWR 1.5 ensures efficient power transfer and minimal signal loss. The antenna height is 47cm (18.5 inches) compact enough for low-clearance garages yet long enough for optimal reception.
- STRONG MAGNETIC BASE SECURE TOOL-FREE MOUNTING The heavy-duty magnetic base (280g total antenna weight) provides strong holding power on any ferrous metal surface vehicle roof, trunk lid, hood, or truck bed rail. The base features a protective rubber ring to prevent scratching your vehicles paint. Tested to stay secure at highway speeds up to 120km/h (75mph). No drilling, no permanent modifications simply place on a metal surface and youre ready to go.
- PL259 MALE CONNECTOR + SMA FEMALE ADAPTER UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY Features the industry-standard PL259 (UHF Male) connector with 3m / 10ft RG58/U low-loss coaxial cable pre-attached. Includes an SMA Female to SO239 (UHF Female) adapter, allowing connection to radios with either PL259 or SMA antenna jacks. This plug-and-play design connects directly to most mobile ham radios, base stations, handhelds (via adapter), and scanners.
- PREMIUM CONSTRUCTION DURABLE & WEATHER-RESISTANT Built with high-quality materials to withstand the rigors of mobile operation. The flexible, spring-loaded whip antenna absorbs shocks from road bumps, low-hanging branches, and car washes without breaking. Weather-resistant design ensures reliable performance in rain, snow, and extreme temperatures (-30°C to +70°C). The 47cm (18.5-inch) whip provides an excellent balance of performance and low profile.
- OMNIDIRECTIONAL RADIATION PATTERN 360° COVERAGE Features an omnidirectional radiation pattern, allowing the antenna to receive and transmit signals from all directions. This eliminates the need for precise aiming ideal for mobile use where your vehicle is constantly changing direction relative to the repeater or base station.
- WIDE COMPATIBILITY WORKS WITH MAJOR HAM RADIO BRANDS Compatible with popular mobile ham radio transceivers and handhelds (with included adapter) from leading manufacturers: BTECH: UV-50X2, UV-25X2, GMRS-V1 ICOM: IC-2730A, IC-2300H, ID-5100A, plus handhelds with SMA Kenwood: TM-281A, TM-V71A, TH-D74A (with adapter) Midland: MXT115, MXT275, MXT400 Yaesu: FT-2900R, FT-7900R, FTM-300DR, FT-60R (with adapter) TYT: TH-7800, TH-9800 AnyTone: AT-778UV, AT-5888UV, AT-6666
- INSTALLATION & GROUND PLANE TIPS For optimal performance, mount the antenna on a large metal surface (vehicle roof is ideal) the metal surface acts as a counterpoise/ground plane. Before transmitting, always check your Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) with an SWR meter. A properly matched antenna (SWR < 2.0) protects your radios final amplifier from damage.

Step 1: Choose the Right Mounting LocationFor optimal performance, mount the antenna on the center of your vehicles metal roof this provides the largest ground plane. Secondary options: trunk lid, hood, or roof rack (if metal and properly grounded). Avoid mounting near roof racks, light bars, or other obstructions.
Step 2: Clean the Mounting SurfaceWipe the area with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust and moisture. A clean surface ensures maximum magnetic grip and prevents scratching.
Step 3: Position the AntennaPlace the magnetic base firmly on the metal surface. The magnet will hold it securely. Ensure the antenna is vertical for best radiation pattern.
Step 4: Connect to Your Radio
- For radios with SO239 (UHF Female) jack: Connect the PL259 male connector directly.
- For radios with SMA female jack: Attach the included SMA Female to SO239 adapter first, then connect the PL259 connector.
- Hand-tighten only do not use tools.
Step 5: Route the CableRoute the 3m RG58/U cable through a window, door seal, or existing cable entry point. Avoid sharp bends or pinching that could damage the coaxial cable. Secure excess cable with cable ties.
Step 6: Test Your SWRBefore transmitting, always check your Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) with an SWR meter. A properly matched antenna (SWR < 2.0) protects your radios final amplifier from damage. Adjust antenna position if SWR readings are high.
Ground Plane RequirementsMost mobile antennas require a metal ground plane under the antenna for proper operation. Magnetic mount antennas use capacitive coupling with the vehicles metal body to create an effective counterpoise. For best results, ensure the antenna is mounted on a large, continuous metal surface. Mounting on non-metal surfaces (fiberglass roofs, plastic panels) will result in poor performance.
Do NOT transmit without checking SWRTransmitting with a high SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) can damage your radios final amplifier. Always verify SWR readings before full-power operation.
Magnetic Base CautionThe magnetic base is strong use care when removing to avoid pinching fingers. To remove, tilt the base slightly to break the magnetic seal rather than pulling straight up.
Cable ProtectionAvoid running the coaxial cable through moving parts (windows, doors) where it could be pinched or cut. The RG58/U cable is durable but not designed for repeated crushing.
Weather ProtectionWhile the antenna is weather-resistant, the connector junction should be protected from direct water exposure. Use weatherproofing tape or silicone grease on the connection point for permanent installations.
