Does this work with regular (non-pass-through) RJ45 connectors?
YES — the AM-728RD crimps both pass-through and standard RJ45 connectors. Handles both STP (shielded) and UTP (unshielded) connectors for all supported categories. If your job site has a mix of connector types, you don't need to carry two tools.
I'm a DIY homeowner running ethernet cable for the first time — is this beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. The all-in-one design means no separate stripper or flush cutter to figure out. The pin lock keeps the tool safely closed when not in use.
Will the blades dull quickly like my last crimper?
High-carbon steel blades are rated for heavy use. Unlike budget alloy blades that deform after ~2,000 crimps, AMPCOM's hardened steel maintains edge integrity far longer. If you do need to swap, 2 spare blades are in the box, swap in under 3 seconds
Is this suitable for professional installers doing 50+ terminations daily?
Yes — high-carbon steel dies rated for 5,000+ crimps, ergonomic grip for repetitive use. The main frame is made by ABS, weighs less than full-metal-frame tools.
My old crimper leaves pass-through wire ends sticking out — does this trim them flush?
Yes — the built-in flush conductor cutter trims wire ends cleanly in the same motion.
