Question 1

Is this a "Managed" switch? Does it support SNMP and RMON? I can't seem to find that anywhere.

Accepted Answer

Yes, it support SNMP v1/v2c along with the following MIBs.

• BRIDGE-MIB (IEEE 802.1Q)
• LLDP-MIB (IEEE 802.3AB)
• EtherLike-MIB
• IF-MIB
• RFC1213-MIB
• RMON-MIB (RMON History as in v1)

It's basic but does the job for small networks.

Question 2

PoE on the 1810-8G?
The product description states that the switch can be PoE-powered (8-port model ...which is the 1810-8g, no?), but the specifications on Newegg state PoE=no.
So, which is it yes or no?
Can the 1810-8G 8-port switch be powered be PoE?

Accepted Answer

The switch can be powered by another POE switch or injector so you don't have to use a brick to power the switch. However, the switch has no POE ports to power other devices which is what that specification is.

Question 3

The description says this is rack mountable but it looks far to small for that. Is this really the case?

Accepted Answer

My comments are based upon the product I bought, the HP 1810-8g v1. The latest product is the v2.

That being said my product did not come with rack mounting rails nor does it appear to have the screw holes on the side of the device to support using rails. In addition the switch body is made of plastic which, in my mind, makes it unsuitable for rack mounting.

Before answering your question, I went to the HP site and the product description (v2) doesn't say anything about mounting rails. It does say this product was intended for a small office environment.
