With the monitor at say 30% brightness, how long will the battery last? I plan to use this for meetings as well, so I am hoping it lasts for at least 2 hours, yes?

The battery life is definitely the biggest weakness on this laptop, but I think at 30% brightness you should be able to last at least 2 hours, as long as you're not doing something that's resource intensive.

Question 2

Being a somewhat older model (4th gen i7, GTX970), does it still fall under the free Windows 10 upgrade (and to which version, Home or Pro, if it does),or does MSI and newegg consider it a warranty violation/voided if we choose to upgrade to 10?

I'm not sure exactly how the Windows 10 upgrade system works, but when I purchased this computer (some time in August) I was given a prompt to download Windows 10 Home in about 2 or 3 days. So yes it does fall under the free Windows 10 upgrade, or at least did.

Question 3

I'm looking to build my first Linux laptop.  How hard is it to install Fedora or other Linux on the SSD?  Does anyone use this with Linux as the primary OS?

I don't use Linux as a primary OS... I do have some VMs with Linux that I run, but it should be as easy as installing w/ any other laptop w/o an optical drive (you'll have to load your image onto a USB thumb drive and boot from there).

Did you have any specific concerns?

Can you upgrade ram to 32gb or can it only stay at 16gb?

According to MSI, 16GB is the max and there are no unused slots:
"DDR3L,up to 1600 MHz, slot *2, max 16GB".

You *might* be able to upgrade it by completely replacing the RAM that comes with it with 2x16 chips, but I don't know if that is supported.  If it is, it's also likely pretty expensive.

What brand and model are the SSDs? I know they're m.2 but exactly which one?

Does this come with the 3 SSDs already loaded into it or is it just the 3 ports available?

Does the sound on yours seem to be all on the right side? the one I had seemed like the left speaker was in the wrong direction.

No the sound actually is bold and very loud the only complaint I have is the vent holes of the cooling fan they aren't even near the fan in take.
