Sorry for the delayed reply.

The answer is no - the keyboard isn't back lit. You do have an option to buy a USB kb (Logitech for ex) that is back lit.

does it have a DVD drive?

Drive E is labeled a DVD RW drive. For us, it handles most CD-ROMs okay (it won't play a few of our older ones), but does not play movie disks. We're not terribly tech savvy, so we might just be doing something wrong.

Is the battery removable? Can the hard drive be replaced easily with an ssd?

While it is possible, it is not simple on this particular laptop. There is no easy-ejecting battery that you can swap, but rather, you'd have to take the bottom panel off to get to it. Same goes for accessing the hard drive.

Question 5

With the free upgrade to Windows 10, is that when it ships now that it is out. Or will there be a way to upgrade to win10 when we receive the computer or a physical disc ?

It took a couple of times but I was able to upgrade just by going into "Check for Updates" under Windows. I think the first time it didn't work is only because I was trying to install virus protection upgrades at the same time.

Is the operating system WINDWS 8.1 PROFESSIONAL?  If not, what is t exactly?

It must be the home edition.   I bought it a few weeks ago and immediately upgraded it to 10.  It upgraded it to Win10 Home so therefore it must have started off as the home version.    (BTW - I do really like this laptop for heavy business applications and streaming video, etc.)

Does downloading to Win 10 mean it becomes touchscreen?

The operating system has nothing to do with touchscreen functionality. This laptop does NOT have a touchscreen.

Question 10

Does this come with Windows 8.1 home or Pro? I need to run business software that will now run on anything higher than Widows 7. I know with the Pro or Ultimate you have downgrade rights to 7 but you can't with Home Premium.
