Question 1

Samsung P9 Express or SanDisk microSD Express for Switch 2?

Accepted Answer

Both are microSD Express cards for Switch 2. Choose the Samsung P9 if you want a Samsung option available in 256GB and 512GB; choose SanDisk if Nintendo’s officially licensed 256GB card matters to you. SanDisk lists a higher maximum read speed—up to 880 MB/s versus up to 800 MB/s for the P9—but Tom’s Hardware’s Switch 2 tests show broadly similar game-load times for the 256GB cards. Maximum card speeds alone do not establish a noticeable gameplay difference.

Question 2

Is the 256GB Samsung P9 enough, or should I get the 512GB version?

Accepted Answer

Choose 256GB if you expect to keep a smaller selection of downloaded games installed and are comfortable managing storage. Choose the 512GB P9 if you want more room for a larger installed library before moving or deleting games. Both capacities are P9 Express cards; the key trade-off is storage capacity, not a different product category.

Question 3

Can I use a regular UHS-I microSD card instead of the P9 in Switch 2?

Accepted Answer

No—not for storing or playing Switch 2 games. Nintendo says Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards; a regular microSD card can only be used to access screenshots and videos. The P9 is the suitable choice if you need expandable game storage. In an original Nintendo Switch, the P9 is backward compatible, but it operates at that console’s microSD-card speeds.

Question 4

Should I get the Samsung P9 256GB or a 1TB Lexar PLAY PRO?

Accepted Answer

Choose the P9 256GB if that capacity suits your game library; choose the Lexar PLAY PRO 1TB if keeping substantially more games installed is the priority. Lexar offers capacities up to 1TB, while Samsung lists the P9 in 256GB and 512GB. Both are microSD Express options; the main decision is how much storage you need.

Question 5

Will this 256GB microSD Express card work with Nintendo Switch 2?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Samsung P9 Express is a 256GB microSD Express card, the card type required for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says an internet-connected system update is required the first time an Express card is used.

Question 6

Is 256GB enough storage for my games?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the size and number of games you keep installed. The card provides 256GB of stated capacity; larger game libraries or games with large downloads may require managing installed titles or choosing more storage.

Question 7

Can I use this card in a tablet, camera, or other device?

Accepted Answer

It is backward-compatible with microSD UHS-I devices, including many tablets, cameras, and drones. Actual compatibility and speed depend on the device; the advertised Express speed requires a compatible host.

Question 8

Can I use this card with the original Nintendo Switch?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A microSD Express card is compatible with the original Nintendo Switch, but it will operate at that console’s microSD-card speeds rather than Express speeds.

Question 9

Is 256GB enough for a Switch 2 game library?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how many games you want installed at once. Reddit discussions include both users who have not filled the console’s internal storage and users who ran short after downloading multiple games. Choose 256GB for a modest library; consider more capacity if you keep many large digital games installed. Usable space will be less than the card’s 256GB label.

Question 10

Is the Samsung P9 256GB a sensible choice if I mainly want more Switch 2 storage?

Accepted Answer

It is a suitable option if you need a microSD Express card and 256GB of added capacity meets your needs. Reddit users report using the P9 successfully, while others say they have not yet needed extra storage. If your internal storage is still sufficient, you may not need to buy an expansion card yet.
