Yes, up to 3, with the NVIDIA GTX 745.

I'm looking for a computer to provide excellent speed and efficiency when editing large video files and using adobe premiere pro, etc. Will this computer prevent imaging and processing from frezzing?

I have been paring this system with a larger ssd drive (There is only 2 sata ports for drives so I am replacing the traditional hard drive) to great success for speed and power in architectural modeling.  With the USB 3 you may be able to accomplish the same thing with an external.  But we have been replacing aging workstations with this system.  As far as your specific application, for a budget system you will not find more power than this for the price, so if the task is still freezing you would be into getting 2 or 3 times the price to get something appreciably more powerful for serious video editing.

would a gtx 970 fit?

It would probably depend on the cooling solution, additionally the case is not provided with a High amount of cooling out of the box and if the card will require an auxiliary power lead, the power supply provided is not oversized.  So short answer would be probably, but you might be buying additional cooling fans, and possibly a new power supply.   I would see if you get satisfactory performance for what you do off the included card.

Can it play DVDs?

It has a DVD RW and includes at least a basic licenses of a DVD playback software.  So yes it will play DVD's.  Though the drive is more of a laptop style pop out tray drive as opposed to a 5 1/4" full size desktop drive.
