Question 1

It says its windows 7 Home 32Bit - if thats the case why is it telling me that I have 18 days to activate it. No product key given to to activate it. What do I do or has anyone else had this issue?

Accepted Answer

I can't remember if it came with windows 7 32 or 64 bit but mine has the original sticker says "This code is no longer valid" and has big X's on it. On the other side of the system is another windows 7 sticker that says "windows 7 home premium for refurb" I had to replace the hard drive that came with my system which meant i had to install windows again. I installed windows 7 home premium from the DVD I had laying around and entered the code that's on the refurb sticker and it worked.

To activate windows 7 you need to open the control panel then go to system, there should be a "windows activation" section there near the bottom. The computer needs to be connected to the internet to activate windows 7.

This computer has both the 9-pin (D-Sub) monitor connector, as well as the white (DVI) monitor connector. You should be good to go.

Question 4

what is the max resolution? I want to use this as media pc.

Accepted Answer

The dc7800 Technical Reference Guide p/n 461444-001 on HP's website indicates:

section 2.3.9 Graphics Subsystem: the Q35 GMCH Integrated Graphics Controller has a Maximum 2D Resolution of 2048x1536 @ 85 Hz.

section 6.2 Functional Description [of the Integrated Graphics Subsystem]: This integrated graphics controller (IGC) ... can directly drive an external, analog multi-scan monitor at resolutions up to and including 2048 x 1536 pixels.

section 6.3 Display Modes: Table 6-2 lists "IGC Standard 2D Display Modes" where the highest resolution listed is 2048 x 1536. The table is followed by the caveat that the highest resolution available will be determined by memory speed and amount, whether it's single or dual channel memory, and the number and type of monitors.

Question 5

Wi-Fi ready?

Accepted Answer

There is no Wifi built into this computer. You would need a USB wireless NIC

Question 6

Hi guys, is the processor upgradable in the future on this computer? Thanks!

Accepted Answer

Yes.

Per the specsheet from HP, you are limited to LGA 775 Processors with a TDP of 65 watts or less. This is MOST Core2 Duo processors. There are a few Core2 Quad processors that meet this TDP requirement, but there is no documentation that confirms that Core2 Quad will work.

Coincidentally I have sourced a Q8200S quad core and will know next week IF it works with this computer.

SATA2 or 3?

The maximum memory is 4GB DDR2 SODIMM (Notebook) RAM.

The SATA2 drive is 2.5" 7200RPM

Question 9

condition machine be used as a home theater PC? How would I connect to my receiver? Can I go from DVI to HDMI? I only want to install XBMC. Any thoughts?

Accepted Answer

DVI has an adapter for HDMI video. Some flat panels will have the DVI connection. I would add more RAM for heavy graphical applications. Switch the driver for a receiver sound to a 3.5mm output instead of the onboard speakers.

Question 10

Will it run Windows 8.1? Although we will probably use Mint or Ubuntu Linux.

Accepted Answer

yes it will as it is a 64 bit OS (dual core) but with win 7 on the machine already and those other OS' available, why would you? ;)
