One USB 3.0 and one 2.0?  3.0 not compatible with 2.0 or is this in case one USB connection isn't plugged in to a powered USB connection?

If you look at the picture, you see one connector go to the hard drive and 2 USB connectors. You can use either of the USB connectors. One USB is USB 2.0, while the other is 3.0. That way you can transfer data from your laptop hard drive to the  Intel drive external to it via USB (your choice) and once data transfer is complete, you remove the laptop hard drive with the Intel SSD.

You get free (Windows) software to do the data transfer (clones internal laptop hard drive to the Intel drive.

What's the stopwatch for?

Can the stopwatch's battery be replaced?

Hello there,

To me, the obvious use for the stopwatch is to test operational speeds of your system/software before and after you install the drive.  I say this not to be snarky, but the kit came with zero documentation except for a link to the SSD's product page on Intel's site, so I'm left to make my own assumptions... 
Yes, you can use benchmark tests for more precise speed tests of hardware etc., but the stop watch would be useful for testing program loading speed comparisons.

I also bought a Series 530 SSD for my secondary computer and have installed it first to work out any kinks before I attack my my primary system with the 730 SSD. There may be some information pertaining to a more specific use for the stop watch on the installation CD included with the 730, but as I have not installed it yet, I can't verify this.

The way the kit is packaged separately from the SSD, it appears to be a gift accompanying your higher end purchase, but not really necessary.  The battery is replaceable, (looks like a wrist watch battery) the screw driver is magnetic and came in handy for the installation of the 530 SSD and some other components that I added at the same time :)
