Question 1

I'm interested in this case but a little concerned about the 3.5 drive specifications.  The case says it supports 3.5 slim ODD.  Will a standard 3.5 drive work with this case?  I have two 3.5 drives sitting in front of me as I type this question.  Laying flat one appears to be 1" tall while the other one is about 2/3" tall. My concern is the size of the four 3.5 mini bays and what size drive will actually fit.  Also can't seem to find a 3.5 slim drive on the new egg site.  Probably just missing them (eye sight, description, etc).   Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated.  I'm also going to look at other cases while I wait.

I think you are confused, the description says the following: External: 3.5" x 4, Slim ODD x1. This means it will support your typical 3.5" HDD (which are about 1" tall) and a Slim Optical Disc Drive (located on the top). These are two different things.

I was told SAS hdd cannot connect to sata backplane but sata hdd can connect to SAS backplane.
Is this correct for this model?

That is correct. I just built a NAS in this Case and we used SATA with the SAS backplane. Everything worked great.
