does this simply install like a dvd player?

The answer to the question is somewhat YES and somewhat NO. The YES is that is installs in the case as easily as a dvd drive, if not easier cause it is lighter and not as bulky.

The NO is the cabling. You need to 110% sure that all cable connections are super tight. I did not and Windows 10 kept crashing because the usb cable was not tight. It took me about 4 abend reboots to figure out that a USB device was causing the crash. I disconnected this device and the machine ran fine.

Once fixed the device has been great since. Speed is very nice even when connecting a usb 2.0 device to it.

Question 2

I don't have SATA Express.  I may I have an available SATA connector (although I already have 2 HDD) and I know I have an available PCIe slot on my motherboard.  Can I make this work with my motherboard?

If they make a pcie to sata express card then maybe, otherwise no.

Question 3

Does this support all motherboards with the appropriate connectors, or just ASRock motherboards?
