Are the cables for this controller modular by any chance?

I cant remember if this came with cable extensions or if they came with my fans but the fans plug into this unit.  The only cable coming off of this was the power supply cable, which can disconnect.  I believe that makes it modular? I hope this helps.  I really like this product, the only thing is I feel when I have all my fans plugged into it that each fan is only at 90% power when turned all the way up.  But the blue lights look great and no major problems so far.

Question 2

I'm considering this unit to power/control fans to cool the cabinet that my CPU sits in.

If I get a molex adaptor to power it, will this work without being connect to a computer?

I love these devices and own 2, they work great.  It needs a 12v power supply (not sure of the amps).  I would be very concerned about an attempt to power this unit by any means other than a computer power supply.

I suppose if you were an engineer and were going to use a power inverter to convert AC to DC and provide circuitry to reduce voltage/amperage etc to the specified input power requirements it would be possible to use another power source, but that would be ludicrous.

Just cut a hole in the back/side of your cabinet for an air vent...  Also, consider adding a water cooled CPU cooler or extra internal case fans etc.
