How is fan speed controlled?

Good Question. I learned that answer...
My motherboard controls the newer 4 pin fans (Asus Hero).
If I'd know that I would have bought seperate fans as per the motherboard capabilities. This hub is good right now as it cuts down the clutter in my case. The attaching velcro is ng. Place it somewhere you can restrain it in the case. There is only a default fan speed.
You will need a seperate fan controller unit if you want to tine tune your fans. My new CPU fan is huge. It blows so much air that I'm not sure what is even going on in my case anymore. Almost need special ventilation equipment just to understand the air flows now.

Where on the motherboard does this plug into?

It doesn’t plug into the mother board. You put it anywhere in your case and you just plug multiple fans into it. It’s just a hub and power port for fans.

Usually you can just use your hdd power cable to power this, if you have extras then that'll work just fine, plug in an extra hdd power cable and your good to go.
