I need to know is it a 3.5mm male to 2 3.5mm female without a specific use for the 3.55mm female ports such as a microphone and headphone port?

It's a straight up splitter. Similar to an extension cord, but with two female ends. If you have only one port in your computer and want to plug in a microphone and speakers I'd suggest a device specifically designed for that like a headset with a microphone.

Is the "mini" supposed to be 3.5MM for size?  Want to make sure it will work on standard size headphones and my ipad.

Is this Belkin F8V234 a 2.5mm mini or 3.5mm mini?

Hi Paul... I have never seen more than one sized mini-plug.  This one accepts the mini-plugs that connect to my Audio Technica and Koss headphones.  I have never come across any mini-plug size that it did not accept.  Hope this is helpful...Malcolm
