Yes, Cat 6 cable will support gigabit (1000mbps) and 10 gig (if under 55 meters). I have used this cable with excellent results.

Will the cat6 work with a PlayStation 3 & or 4?

Yes, for PS4 - I heard the PS4 supports Gigabit Ethernet - faster,  (PS3 doubt it, to old - cable may fit but won't benefit from gigabit speed boost, no point in cat 6)) PS4 should support Gigabit Ethernet - faster (not sure contact Sony), which should speed up data transfer rates. This may speed up downloads/gaming but not sure, you may want to google/check some forums on this. I still have cat5 e on PS4 which will support gigabit Ethernet on my PS4, but I rarely play on line. I bought these cables for my Ethernet modem/router/PC and I think it makes a difference in that department. Hope this helps, maybe another buyer will have better insight on this matter..

What gage are the wires?

Most and likely all network cable is 24 AWG, 5E and cat 6 have to
do with shielding and crosstalk
