Question 1

I have a passport HD older HD... with a firewire plugin.  I bought a new 2014 Macbook Pro and guest what no firewire.  I have no way to open this HD.. will this product Rosewill firewire adapter work so I can move material?  thank you Sunny

Hi there,

If it's a 2014 mac, then no - at least not by itself. This adapter worked for me because I have a mid-2012 macbook pro, which is a different pin number on the firewire port, but it is still at least firewire. This adapter just works for connecting older firewire devices (in my case the original Apogee duet, circa 2008) to newer inputs that have a different pin count (400 vs. 800). It's still firewire to firewire.

It sounds like what you need is a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter, so that you can connect to your 2014 Macbook Pro, which should have a Thunderbolt input.

does it work with isight external camera to mac mini?

That is exactly the purpose we used ours for, works great with no issues.  Even matches very closely to the OEM power cord that comes out of the back of the mini, so matches very well if you have your mini on top of your desk.
