Is this an active or passive USB extension cable?

It is a passive.  I used it to extend to printer but would suggest an active if you are doing any other application that needs a usb extension

will this be able to support a hard drive?

Depends on the hard drive, if its an internal, no you will need an SATA cable, if its an external and it does not have a special connection doc. (most of them do) then it will be able to EXTEND the male end of the usb connection, but not plug directly into the hard drive. I have a 2tb next to my tv that I use this cable to extend to my PC and it works fine, but again its (HD Dock-This cable->PC)

Question 3

will this work with the rosewill RNX-N250UBE wifi adapter or any wifi adapter? I ordered a Nippon usb 15 ft cable and only got a usb device malfunction error in windows...

I used this cable with my Nexus 7 tablet to control my Nikon camera.  It works ok with one but when I tried two cables it didn't work.

You should ask  Rosewill customer service, I'm sure they'll be happy to help.  Your wifi adapter doesn't seem to be self-powered so the power would have to come from the USB port and the longer the cable the bigger the signal loss.

A wifi adapter with it's own power source is probably a better choice if you want the antenna to be 15' away from the USB port.

Rosewill will probably have the best answer as they'd rather sell you the right product than take back one that doesn't work for you.

would this work for a keyboard?

I'm sure it would work on almost all usb keyboards and other usb devices as well. It is only rated usb2 so it may slow down some usb3 devices.

will this work for my ps3 camera?

I have 2 of these and they work fine, but not daisy chained as that's just too long for a non-boost USB cable.

I was able to control my Nikon D3100 from my Nexus 7 and when you add in the OTG cable at the Nexus and the standard USB to mini USB cable at the camera it was well over 15' so the signal loss in the Rosewell product isn't huge.

Can't promise it will work with your camera, though.  My research shows quite a mixed bag results with attempts to extend a PS3 camera, even with booster cables.

Considering the cost it is probably worth a shot as a booster USB cable is about twenty times as expensive.
